Cyanotypes

Simple in process but challenging in creation, cyanotypes were invented in 1842 by Sir John F. W. Herschel. A year later, Anna Atkins produced the first photographic book, Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions. The process excels as a medium for photograms. The stark contrast of the vivid blue tones against the white of the paper challenge creativity with its graphic simplicity.
